Say Goodbye to The Bale, and Hello to Ben Affleck as Batman. Why I Think the Batfleck Will Work...Just Think That Chris Evans Became Captain America after Fantastic Four. Also How I'm So Super Fucking Awesome at ALWAYS Bringing the Conversation Back Round to Jeremy Renner! HA!

So I got into a conversation about Ben Affleck being cast as the new Batman the other day.  The thing that everyone seems to keep bringing up is that Daredevil is shit so how dare he think he has the right to do another comic book movie!?!  However....my retort to this has been two words...CHRIS EVANS!!!  Fantastic Four was shit....let's face it, he was pretty much the only good thing about that total cheesefest.  However, he then went on to become Captain America and I absolutely fucking adore him in that role.  He's perfect!!  Not only is he like totes babesville, he really brings a wonderful depth and quirkiness to the character of Steve Rogers before, and after he becomes the Cap!  

Whilst I'm on the subject of Chris Evans, and like I said to my friend the other day...I'm just glad that it's finally okay for me to admit to liking him.  I've totally had a crush on him since Cellular, but he was too much of a hunk for me to admit to liking.  Haha.  It wasn't until he'd done Sunshine and Street Kings that I finally let myself admit to my feelings.  I totally watched Cellular when it was in the cinema and I used the excuse that it was because I was just finishing and was bored and had nothing to do, and that was the first thing to start!!  Bullshit!!  Haha.  I'd seen the trailer, got totally addicted to the Evans and that's why I watched it.  Total saddo I know.  ;)  

But yes, he embraced the role of the Cap, and he is perfect in that role.  See picture below.  *cough*Jeremy Renner*/cough*  ;)

Just think...what if the studio hadn't have taken the chance with him!?!!  

As much as I'd have LOVED to have had Christian Bale back as Batman, I do appreciate his integrity at not just doing it for a shit load of money.  Good on him I say.  I wish more actors were like this and didn't just do stuff for the money.  Everyone needs to earn a living but some things just should never happen.  This is NOT an example of that though.  The Bale is my Batman and yes, Affleck has a whole lot to live up too....but this is a different Batman.  And people....even in the comics there is more than one Batman, so stop your bitchin' already!! 

 Besides, Christian Bale is busy playing with my future husband Jeremy Renner right now filming American Hustle...sorry guys, but as much as I think Bale is the ultimate Batman...making a film with the Rennersaurus is just too fucking awesome to pass up.

 Let's give Affleck a chance though, see what he can do.  I trust Zach Snyder's decision.  Ben Affleck was always hit or miss with me.  Earlier on in his career he was so good at playing the douchebag, that you kinda thought he was a bit of a douche.  Despite the fact that I really like him in Dogma.  

He's obviously a huge comic book nerd himself, and being best buds with Kevin Smith....that was an opinion I was dying to hear!!  And Smith is 110% behind him!!  In fact, to quote the man himself - 

"This dude has loved Batman going as far back as I can remember.  He only did fucking Daredevil because he loved Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns.  He's like, 'They're never going to make another Batman', because this was after Batman had nipples.  So he was like, 'Daredevil's cool, and mean Miller wrote him as well.'  So he liked the character, but it was always rooted in Batman.  He's always been into the notion.  He'll honour the character."

In fact, you should just listen to the hysterical comedy appearance where he gives his opinion...it's fucking brilliant!!  I love how he mentions Robert Downey Jr. and how he used all his years of being Robert Downey Jr. and then clawing his way back to bring that charm to Iron Man...and how Ben Affleck has done the same thing....been to the top, fallen completely to the bottom, and then clawed his way back up to the top.  That's the kind of Batman they're looking for.  :) 

This isn't just about money.  I'm pretty sure he has enough that he doesn't need to risk his career again by doing something stupid!  And let's be fair, that's like saying if you made one bad horror movie, you shouldn't make another...that's just retarded!!  

I think things would have been a lot different if he hadn't started dating Taco Lopez...that almost ruined his career....more so than Daredevil.  He got it back though, and in fighting form.  As a director, Affleck is like a young Clint Eastwood.  He has perfected his craft, and acting in his own films only seems to have further perfected his acting skills.  I really liked Gone Baby Gone, but it was his second feature - The Town...that's what got me hooked on his ability as both an actor and a director.  I adore that movie and it's easily one of my favourite films of all time.  I put it up there with Heat in that sort of genre.  And that's a pretty big fucking compliment!!

With The Town, not only did Affleck cast my future husband Jeremy Renner in a role that is sheer beautiful brutality; he also yet again cast one of my favourite rappers, Slaine, as another part of the bank heist foursome.  Affleck had first discovered Slaine when he was casting Gone Baby Gone and obviously realised how fucking awesome he was as he cast him again in The Town.  :)

My only complaint about The Town is that they maybe underused Jeremy Renner....but that's just me.  Haha.  I've had a thing for the Renner since 1995, lol....so I am extremely bias!  The Town did get the Rennersaurus a second Oscar nomination, this time for Best Supporting Actor.  He lost out, but his time will come.  Oh yes it will!! ;)  

Anyhoo, after The Town, Affleck went on to score himself an Oscar...for Best Film with Argo....which was a fucking amazing film as well.  Totally deserved to win.  :)  I actually love part of his Oscar speech....it actually oozes Batman...especially the Bruce Wayne that is planned for Batman vs Superman.  

"What I learned was it doesn't matter if you get knocked down in life, what matters is that you've got to get back up."

 If that's not a Batman quote then I don't know what is!?!!  Well, apart from "I'm Batman!!"  Go Sheldon! ;) 

So yes, let's just give the man a chance.  Yeah when I first read it, I was suffering from a serious concussion and thought I was imagining it and did have that 'what the fuck!?!' reaction...however that lasted a second before I started thinking of all the pro's about him being the Dark Knight.  And I'm sure after consulting with Kevin Smith he was told that there would be no end of Matt Damon - Robin jokes.  Haha.  Matt Damon is fucking Jason Bourne though....I mean, don't fuck with the dude!! ;)

Only time will tell if Affleck has made a mistake, but I for one have faith in him.  This is a character he loves and I'm pretty sure that he's got enough pull in Hollywood (even if he's not directing the movie), that if he feels they're doing something shit...he's gonna have a say in it!!  So yesss....Team Batfleck over here.  

And big lol....do you like how I can totally refer back to Jeremy Renner like all the time.  Moooahahahahahahaha.

Okay so holy moly, fuck me sideways.  Two of my ultimate most favourite actors ever are in a film together.  Jeremy fucking Renner AND Christian fucking Bale!!  Words escape me.  This is freakin' Batman AND Hawkeye.  EEEEEEEEEEEEE.  

This is pretty much nerd porn if you ask me.  Dodgy suits and all.  Haha.  This is from the wicked awesome director David O. Bearing in mind, this is two of the single greatest actors of our time...and the sexiest!!  I love these guys more than I can ever express and to say I'm nerding about this flick is a total understatement.  BWAH!!

Why I'm Still Not Sold on Anne Hathaway as Catwoman!

Okay so when Heath Ledger was cast as The Joker in The Dark Knight, my first thought was hmmmm!?!  When Ledger first started out with films such as 10 Things I Hate About You...I hated him! (Pictured below in all his cheesiness!)  Now if I had only seen the film once or twice I'm sure it wouldn't have bothered me as much, but my darling beloved house mate Becky, the gorgeous darling that she is...she spent the whole freakin' summer I lived with her watching that goddamn movie!

After that he continued to do cheesetastic films and I just was NOT a fan!  When he did movies like Ned Kelly and The Sin Eater, I started to warm a little bit more to him but it wasn't until Lords of Dogtown (pictured below) that I saw a truly great performance and started to realise what a wonderful actor he really was.

Now I'll put my hand up and say I've never actually seen Monster's Ball so can't actually comment on that.  Brokeback Mountain was another good performance but I don't totally love that film.  Hanging around with a bunch of lads definitely dimmed my viewing of that movie though, I'll be perfectly honest. Too many Brokeback Mountain jokes prior to my first viewing made it impossible for me to watch without laughing...which was really annoying!  Candy and I'm Not There are other good examples of excellent Heath performances prior to The Dark Knight but I didn't see either of them until after The Dark Knight!  So anyhoo, even though I was warming to him more and more, I was still incredibly sceptical and didn't think he could pull off the part of The Joker!

And then the first picture of him all Joker'ed up was released.  I was dumbfounded!  The photo was haunting, it sent a shiver down my spine.  Straight away I thought, The Crow. If he wasn't playing The Joker he would have been perfect as Eric Draven.  In hindsight this was a fact that was all too close to the truth and when Heath was pronounced dead before The Dark Knight was released, I knew this shuddering similarity was all too real.

So anyhoo, pretty much sold on him as The Joker I was in Glasgow airport, we were dropping my friend Gog's off as he was leaving for China that day.  Waiting around in the airport, I'm sure someone had went to the toilet or to get food or whatever...anyhoo, I was standing outside WHSmiths.  I turn around and sitting on the shelf was the latest edition of Empire magazine...I scream, with delight...and run over to grab the magazine, "OH MY GOD"ing all the way.  On the cover was Heath fully dressed as The Joker, it was amazing.  It was one of the most beautiful things I'd ever seen, and one of the best Empire covers EVER!  He looked amazing.  That was it, I was sold!  From this moment, I knew that he WAS The Joker.  End of.  So I literally bounce over to the counter in excitement to buy the magazine, the guys behind the counter bemused by my dorkiness!  From here on out, everything I saw prior to the film being released, I became all the more giddier with excitement.  

The first time I saw The Dark Knight was at the IMAX in London.  It was one of the best days of my life!  I was with my one of my bestest friends in the world, Nia...and my new found friend Yvonne.  Earlier on that day I had met two of my idols, Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz!  Creator and producer of The X Files.  After meeting the two men who we all deemed to be Gods, we went back to the place we were staying, got changed into our Batman t shirts and set off for The London Dungeon.  Which is beyond awesome by the way!  After screaming and laughing our way round the Dungeon we got ourselves some rubber bats and set off for the IMAX.  

Now the opening sequence was done in 3D and that on an IMAX screen was immense.  You were literally sucked into Gotham City, it was amazing.  Too much more of that giddiness though would have been a bit too much so I'm quite happy it was just that scene that was 3D.  Anyhooooo, I loved the film.  It was perfect.  It was a thing of beauty.  The hospital scene and then also the scene where the Joker is speeding through the streets at night with his head hanging out the car vehicle window, I thought to myself, this is one of the defining moments of modern cinema.  Heath Ledger as The Joker was the most perfect choice ever.  He was flawless.  My doubt had been completely retarded and I, alongside pretty much the rest of the world, had been proven wrong.  Heath Ledger WAS The Joker.  He IS The Joker.  Nobody even comes remotely close.  Simples.  

So now that I have explained my thoughts on Heath and how I was oh so happily proved wrong, here is my problem with Anne Hathaway being cast as Catwoman.  As a girlie, Catwoman is a very important character, I want to see her done right...so badly!  What actually incited this blog was the fact that I was watching Batman Returns last night and posted to Facebook that Michelle Pfeiffer WAS Catwoman and that I thought she was perfect.  Which I do.  Now I have conversed with people before about how we all thought the same when The Joker was cast and that how Christopher Nolan is brilliant and we totally trust him.  Now the thing is...I do trust him...110%...with male characters!  With female characters he's not so shit hot, as the Rachel character proved with Batman Begins.  But still...I'm keeping my hopes up.  Even if it doesn't seem like I am.  Now obviously his Batman lives more in the real world, that's almost what makes it so good.  Tim Burton's Catwoman wouldn't work so well in a Nolan film, I am perfectly aware of that!  In all fairness, I would rather that Nolan hadn't went with Catwoman at all.  If I had to choose a female villain I would have went with Harley Quinn.

But for whatever reason, he has went with Catwoman, a reason that is more than likely down to studio pressure.  When Anne Hathaway was cast as Catwoman, both myself and pretty much every other female nerd I know expressed a massive bleugh reaction!  She has never been one to stand out as an actress to me, and with the exception of the fact that I love her wonderfully pale skin...that's pretty much where it ends for me in any kind of liking towards her.  BUT...I still kept telling myself that Nolan knows what he's doing, we're all going to be eating our words in no time...just wait till we get the first pics of her.  And then we get THIS -

Now don't get me wrong, I'm all for Nolan's realistic vision but doesn't she kind of remind you of Jessica Alba in the latest Spy Kids movie??

Only time will tell if this works or not, and I truly hope that it does!  I want her to be good as Catwoman, I'm just really not feeling it just now.  Michelle Pfeiffer is still Number One in my Catwoman eyes, yup yup yup!  But as I said, only time will tell...I hope I'm wrong in my doubt!
