Getting to Know Suicide Squad's Rick Flag...Everyone Needs Joel Kinnaman in their Life!

So with the final trailer for Suicide Squad having just dropped, and been fabulously Rick Flag heavy, I figured a wee Kinnaman geek fest was in order!

I have been a fan of this incredible Swedish actor ever since I first watched The Killing, one of my all time favourite shows.  Joel gave that show so much heart and to watch him progress into such an incredible actor, with so much range and depth....it's so fucking rad!  You can check out my Manflesh Monday's post on Joel that I wrote after saying goodbye to Stephen Holder for the final time....it pretty much sums up my love of him as both an actor and a character!

With the long awaited Suicide Squad almost here, and with Joel having returned to Netflix in the latest season of House of Cards....add to that recent performances in films such as Run All Night, Child 44, Knight of Cups and Robocop to name a few...his star is most definitely on the rise...proving to be an incredible dramatic actor, action star and downright funny guy too!  What more could you want!? :)  His new film, Edge of Winter, with Spidey himself, Tom Holland, looks incredible as well, check out my recent blog for it HERE

Woo Hoo....Joel Kinnaman in Edge of Winter! Rick Flag Meets Spiderman!

So ever since The Killing started, I developed an insane looooooooooove for Joel Kinnaman!  He is such an absolutely incredible, and still shockingly underrated actor who deserves so much fucking love and adoration!

With Suicide Squad almost here, it's shit hot to see my Kinnaman in indie thriller Edge of Winter, starring young wee Spidey, Tom Holland.  :)  Joel is also in the new season of House of Cards, which totally gives me an excuse to check it out now, haha.

Check out the trailer, see what you think, and EVERYONE listen to me.....you NEED to start obsessing over this man if you haven't already!  Yups!  :)

Manflesh Monday's - My Mulder for a New Generation, The Killing's Detective Holder, AKA Joel Kinnaman!

When my show's end, some have caused utter nervous breakdown heartache.  Ummm, yeah....X Files and LOST.  Haha.  I have to admit, that last night, when I finally said goodbye to Holder and Linden...knowing that this time it was for real...there was this beautiful kind of melancholy to it.  I am  not going to give away spoilers in this post, that shall be for another post, but WOW.  Just WOW!!

So what is it about Joel Kinnaman that made me fall head over heels in utter adoration of him?  And NOT just because he looks like THIS!! :)

I think a large part of what made me love Holder so much, is that he is such a beautifully flawed character.  He is trying to do good, and yeah, he fucks up from time to time.  That doesn't make him a bad person.  Just a human being.  He is fighting the good fight, whilst fighting his own personal demons, and those of the evils that surround him on a daily basis.

His relationship with his partner Linden, their total protection over one and other, the fact that he will do ANYTHING to help her.  I have only ever seen this once before in my life, to such a beautiful extent.  It is a comparison I would NOT make lightly.  I am of course talking about Mulder and Scully.  He will fight, and he will do anything to save her.  Just as Mulder would do for Scully.  He would risk his life, and his career for her...on countless occasions.

Now the Mulder and Scully comparison took a little while to build up, and it was in fact during an episode in Season 2, where Holder's life is in danger, and the clock is ticking...and I screamed at my TV, "This is NOT Happening!!"  X Philes will understand the relative weight of that statement.  From that moment on, their core  relationship became so much more and more like that which Mulder and Scully shared.  So OF COURSE I was going to fall insanely in love with him!

Throughout Season 3, which, in my humble opinion is one of the most perfect examples of TV, like, EVER...the shipper'ness continued.  Not even so much that I was shipping for them in the same way that I did Mulder and Scully...even though, I guess it kinda was.  I didn't want them to be with anyone else.  Haha.  What more do you need when you get to spend all day and night, sitting in a car stalking bad guys with the one person who truly gets you!

From his quirky eating habits, to quirky overall sense of humour.  Even just hearing his voice makes me sit up and pay attention.  He's just one of those naturally charismatic characters.  The way that Season 3 ends, it's on a TOTAL Mulder and Scully moment.  Can I say, ORISON!?!  Season 4 saw how Holder and Linden coped with the fallout of Linden's Scully-like actions.  And that is all I'm going to say regarding Season 4.  Well, apart from the fact that it was beautifully fucked up, and there were a few brilliant surprises, and in true Killing fashion, it wasn't all as obvious as it was made out.  :)  And I cried.  But happy tears too.

The full  6 one hour episodes of Season 4 (which makes it basically 8 episodes if it were aired on AMC) are available for streaming on Netflix.  I absolutely 142% recommend you go and watch this pronto.  And I'll be writing my total spoilerific post tomorrow.  I'm still slightly overwhelmed right now.  :)

The Killing's Stephen Holder - I LOVE You!!

You know, it's been a long time since I last felt the same way about a TV law enforcement agent as I did Agent Mulder.  But then Stephen Holder came along and changed all of that.  I fucking LOVE that guy!!  Season 1 and 2 of The Killing were spectacular, Season 3 however....that was a whole other ball game!

In my humble opinion, Season 3 of The Killing is one of the most perfect examples of TV in the history of TV....and film, if I'm going to be perfectly honest!  There is something so rare and beautiful about it, it's almost like it was too perfect for mainstream audiences to get behind.  And that makes me sad.  And I have to admit, I was fucking raging when it got cancelled....AGAIN!!  Thankfully though, due to super awesome nerd fans, and Netflix, we are going to get a Season 4....a chance for loose ends to be tied up, and for our characters to leave us on a not so "holy fuckballs" cliffhanger/Orison note.

Thank you Netflix for not letting such amazing characters suffer just because people were too stupid to get behind them.  Holder and Linden ARE the single closest thing I've ever come to Mulder and Scully since they were taken away from me.  And anyone who disagrees.....tell me you've watched EVERY episode of The Killing, and EVERY episode of The X Files...and then tell me you disagree.  I am a hardcore dedicated X Phile, and trust me...those words do NOT come lightly.  I think Holder and Linden are deserving of that comparison though.  They truly are that amazing.  Love them!! :)
