CJ Wallis is Back in the Horrorverse with New Film BB, Due to Start Filming November 2013!

So it is it great pleasure that I can announce that after a wee bit of a break, Award Winning director/writer/all rounder, CJ Wallis, is returning to the horror genre.  Horror fans will know CJ as Goody Two Shoes in Dead Hooker in a Trunk, and he was also the guy who designed my wicked Jennifer's Bodies poster last year and collaborated on numerous shorts, PSA's, website development and pre-production of American Mary with Jen and Sylvia Soska.

Over the past couple of years, he's been touring and documenting The Smoker's Club Tour (featuring Curren$y, Method Man, Spitta, The Jets and many more),  as well as a documentary for Curren$y himself, and numerous music videos.  He also frequently collaborates with The Scarlet Ending, Cornerboy P, Fiend and many more which you can view at his website.

With BB though, I'm happy to say that he is back to the horrorverse with a macabre vengeance!
Hope you enjoy these two teaser pics and synopsis to start you nerding out on this wicked new project of CJ's.

BB is the provocative story of a girl named Leah who, under the name "Candy Cummings," performs strip shows online from her apartment for thousands of strangers every day, never fully knowing the extent of evils that could be watching on the other side of the screen.
BB is set to begin filming in late November from filmmaker CJ Wallis (@fortyfps) , assuming all roles on the films production & execution and introduces Jennifer Mae (@purplestar420) in the lead role of Candy. Two previous Wallis' collaborators (Troy DeLottinville & Karen Kruper) have also been attached for small roles.

The film will be set to screen in festivals in early 2014.

Piracy - Robbing the Lives of Underground Film Makers!!

Okay, so once again my views on pirating movies seems to have hit a raw nerve with some people!!  This came about after I realised that indie horror V/H/S (pictured above and below) was making it's way around oil rigs.

I live in an area where a large percentage of people work off shore, so this is obviously gonna be one of the most noticeable areas where pirated movies are shared.  Another would be the forces, they're terrible for it too!!  Getting off track though, seeing that a film that was made within a community of my some of my closest friends was getting passed around for free, it obviously got me on my soapbox!!

I think when it comes to piracy, be it pirated DVD's, or downloading/streaming movies for free, the majority of people don't give a second thought for the film makers, the people that gave their blood, sweat and tears to make the movie.  I mean, could you imagine, giving your all to something and then getting pretty much nothing back from it...it wouldn't feel that great would it?!!  Getting movies funded in this day and age isn't as easy as what most seem to think, even the big studio's, they're wary to fund films unless they know that it's gonna make them a fortune right from the get go!!  It frequently baffles me why certain big Hollywood studios will put a shit ton of money into a film like Green Lantern, or Battleship, or god forbid any Michael Bay movie (that's a whole different rant though, haha), yet they won't fund smaller independent movies that would take a teensy tiny fraction of the cost to make...and then go on to make millions.  A perfect example of this would be Saw, or Insidious.  James Wan and Leigh Whannell (pictured below), you are both geniuses!! :)

Because the big studios are usually unwilling to fund smart, intelligent and original films, the film makers often have to largely fund the film themselves, or to have fans help to raise funds for them.  This is something that is largely evident in the horror industry. The big studios will fund utter wank like the Nightmare on Elm Street remake, or The Omen remake...actually, pretty much any remake...yet they won't fund anything original as they usually don't have the balls too!!  Many film makers are using sites such as KickStarter and IndieGoGo to fund their projects with the help of fans.  So fans are helping to fund these movies, yet "casual movie watchers", like the people who watch stuff just for the sake of it and couldn't give a fuck about the people who made the film, they're stealing from the true fans as well.  Yet they don't seem to get why this grinds my fucking gears!!!

When it came to looking for the moohlah to fund their follow up to their grindhouse self funded Dead Hooker in a Trunk, American Mary...Jen and Sylvia Soska's parents Agnes and Marius Soska mortgaged their freakin' house to help finance it!!  This money then made other financier's feel more comfortable about getting on board this darkly twisted and fucked up little beauty!!  How cool is that, I mean, how many parents would be willing to do that for their twisted little children? :)  This was obviously a very risky move, but it turned out to be a great one!!  Now Universal Films have acquired distribution rights for many international territories including the UK and Germany, and are looking to acquire world rights.

Dead Hooker in a Trunk however was funded entirely by the two of them working their arses off in their day jobs, and then totally maxing out their credit cards.  Again, a move that worked to their advantage but could have completely backfired, as so many other film makers have found out.  The success of Dead Hooker in a Trunk was largely due to the support from the underground film industry, and especially the Women in Horror Month movement...which I am proud to call myself a part of. :)  This backed with support from Eli Roth and things started really started to move forward for Jen and Sylvia...but it took a whole lot of clever networking and support from horror film nerds for them to get to the point where Eli Roth asked if they had any more scripts...the point from where American Mary was conceived. :D

We live in a society where it's deemed okay to pirate films, but what people seem to forget, is that this is these people's livelihood's that are being messed with.  The whole thought that "all film makers are loaded and don't need the money anyway", that's a heap of crap!!  Some of them work day jobs and then film in their evenings and weekends.  They basically have no life, and then for people to just download or pirate these films without a second thought, I said it before, and I will say it again, they're just raping the fucking film makers up the arse...and they couldn't give a fuck about it!!

My thoughts and opinions have caused a lot of controversy among people close to me, but I don't fucking care.  And my graphic depiction...sometimes one needs to be so graphic to get a point across.  Rape is taking something without any regard for the other person, it is an action where you couldn't care less about the other person's feelings, or life.  And I'm sorry, but that is exactly what pirating these underground films does.  You could ruin a film makers career, and even life, just because you have no regard for what they do, or them as an actual person.

I then got into an argument where the prices of cinema tickets came into it, yet, most of these underground films don't make it to the cinema....and why...because people fucking pirate them and then the film company doesn't see the point, I mean, where's the money to be made!?!!  A point that was made very clear when desperate to see Adam Green's Frozen, I had to go to Edinburgh to the Cameo Cinema, the only cinema in the whole of freakin' Scotland that was showing it!!!  (Pictured below - Me showing my support from indie horror at the Cameo Cinema in Edinburgers)

At the end of the day, I know I'm never going to win this argument with everyone, but if people could at least think about what they're doing, and if they enjoy these the films at least then buy them on DVD/Blu-Ray, or watch them through LoveFilm or Netflix.  Just let the film makers know that you appreciate their work and support them in their journey to bring more great films to you.  All films suffer as a result of piracy, but it's the smaller budget independent films that suffer the worst, and that's just not cool!!  So don't be a dick and contribute to destroying a world of decent fucking movies!!

And this was never aimed at any one person, it was aimed at society in general.  The End.

Monster Pictures, A.K.A. Universal Pictures, Officially Have Distribution Rights for Jen and Sylvia Soska's American Mary...WOOT!!

So it is with great pleasure that I can finally unzip my mouth and announce to y'all that American Mary, the second feature from my twinnie Canadian sista's has been bought by the one and only, Universal freakin' Pictures!!!  This is such unbelievably downright fucking rad~core news, for both Jen and Sylvia, the team behind American Mary...and for horror fans the world over!!  At the moment they have distribution rights for a number of international territories including the UK and Germany, and are currently battling it out to aquire world rights too!!  :D  The fact that such a big distribution company have picked up an indie darling of a film, that is beyond downright fucked up, is a huge step forward for the independent horror movie industry.  It's proof that the big guys are sitting up and paying attention.  That they appreciate a downright good movie, and have perhaps decided that the time has come to support films that aren't just manufactured churned out garbage!!  Because let's face it, American Mary most certainly is NOT that!!
American Mary is the story of medical student, Mary Mason as she becomes increasingly broke and disenchanted with the surgical world she once admired.  The allure of easy money sends Mary into the world of underground surgeries, which ends up leaving more marks on her than her so called 'freakish' clientele.
American Mary is a wonderful look into the world of body modification, a world that is often frowned upon by mainstream society, and wrongly at that.  We live in such a judgemental society that these individuals who get enveloped in this world, they can be some of the sweetest and most loving people you could ever meet.  It's the so-called "normal" people, the professionals, the conventionally attractive people, these are the people that can be the real arseholes of society!!  With American Mary, Jen and Sylvia have really brought a sense of humanity to these so-called "scary and weird" people and have brought to light some of the horrors behind "normality".

With a downright wicked script, a superb cast and an amazing team behind the film, this really is testament to girl power at its strongest!!  They have taken on the sausage~fest world of horror and raped it up the ass with a great big fucking dildo...in the best of ways of course, haha!!  Just check out the first trailer for the film, I mean...HERRRROOOOOO!!!!! ;)

And speaking of the cast, one of the most amazing things to have come out of this is the absolutely gore~geous and fucking amazing Tristan Risk.  Tristan was originally brought in to work on dance routines and it was after meeting her that Jen and Sylvia realised that she WAS Beatress!!  She embodies the character of Beatress Johnson so much, it's totally freaky that the girls actually wrote this part without even knowing her.  It's a match made in freak~tarded heaven!! :)

After such a positive screening at the Cannes Film Festival, Universal have obviously seen the brilliance that lies before them.  People in England can also witness this genius on Monday 27th August at the 13th Annual Frightfest Film Festival in London where both Jen and Sylvia, along with stars Katherine Isabelle and John Emmet Tracy will be in attendance.

For a nerd~gasm of a look at the look at the full cast then check out my post I did before which you can read here.  To follow all the latest Mary updates and going on's then please be sure to LIKE the American Mary page on Facebook!

American Mary - First Pictures Released Before Going All the Way to Cannes!!!

Okay so it is with super fucking totally rad~core over the top excitability that I wander into my email to discover this little beauty of a picture...the first promotional pic from my Canadian twinnie sista's in crime, Jen and Sylvia Soska's 2nd feature, American Mary! <3  The first pic features Katherine Isabelle in the title role of Mary, meeting two potential clients...with bad ass fucking awesome as fuck back~deco! :P  I want my back to look like that! :D  Also featured is Twan Holliday, looking all bad ass and biker boy...mmmmmmm.  I freakin' love everything about this photo, it truly is an epic first picture!  Well, next to THAT picture that Jen accidentally leaked before, mwahahaha.  Now that was a bad ass picture! :D

Next picture to be released is one of Antonio Cupo in the role of Billy Barker, Jen and Sylvia's tribute to horror legend Clive Barker, a tribute I have a feeling Mr Barker will fucking love!!! <3

Now I am one of the lucky few to have read the script and I can tell you now, it's fucking beyond all quantities of fucked up awesomeness!!!  And looking at these stills is making me wet with anticipation!!!

Now these pics aren't the only exciting things happening in the world of Mary...Jen and Sylvia are actually headed to the Cannes Film Festival for the World Market Premier of American Mary on the 17th May!  I am so excited and proud of my sisters, they have accomplished so much, and in such a short period of time.  I can't wait to be able to share more pics...and I'm especially looking forward to seeing Tristan Risk as Beatress Johnson.  Sooooooo looking forward to her! :D  I mean, just check her out with Jen and Sylv! ;)

In the meantime, please check out my blog on the full cast of the movie where you can view the teaser trailer as well.  And also, in celebration of Jen and Sylvia talking Mary to Cannes...take some enjoyment out of these pics... ;)

Tristan Risk Takes Over Leah Gibson Role in American Mary as Beatress Johnson!

Okay so after the final casting announcement for Jen and Sylvia Soska's American Mary was released yesterday and I published it on my blog, a number of the main horror sites such as Dread Central and Bloody Disgusting obviously published the information as well...with a number of them linking to my blog as the source of information.  The thing is, it looks like they've taken the info that I gave yesterday in my blog and then added Leah Gibson's name to it.  Leah was originally slated to play the role of Beatress Johnson, however due to creative differences this is no longer the case.

As a burlesque performer Tristan was originally brought in as the dance choreographer for the movie, not to read for the part.  It was only after chatting to the girls that they realised that their Beatress was sitting right in front of them...Tristan IS Beatress!  So now, not only do the girls have their perfect Beatress, they also have an amazing choreographer as well...it's the perfect scenario!  Just looking at these amazing pictures of Tristan, I'm sure you will all agree, she is perfect for American Mary....I can't wait to see her in action! <3

Yet Another American Mary Casting Announcement, And This Time it's Newcomer Natasha Forry!

Okay so it's another day and yet another cast member of the upcoming flick from Jen and Sylvia Soska has been announced.  This time it's newcomer Natasha Forry, making her debut role in American Mary.  According to the girls we are going to be enjoying Natasha as sultry jail bait...now jail bait for whom, that is the question!?!  :)  With secrecy surrounding the exact plot details, every little tidbit of information leaves us all the more curious...and that is exactly what these pesky Soska's want, the little minxes that they are! ;)

In the meantime however, you can cyberstalk Natasha on Twitter @natashaforry

The Full Lead Cast of American Mary Announced...And it is An X Phile's Nerd~gasm!

So it is with geektastic pleasure that I can now announce the names of the lead characters in Jen and Sylvia Soska's new movie, American Mary!

American Mary is the story of medical student, Mary Mason as she becomes increasingly broke and disenchanted with the surgical world she once admired.  The allure of easy money sends Mary into the world of underground surgeries, which ends up leaving more marks on her than her so called 'freakish' clientele.

Now I've always known Jen and Sylvia to be massive X Philes, and coming from Vancouver, that's all the cooler to be honest.  Now that the cast has been announced, and I've had time to stalk all their resume's...I have realised just how much X Files talent is going to be in this movie!  Soooooooo, without further adu.......

Katherine Isabelle as Mary Mason

Katherine Isabelle is the daughter of X Files Art Director Graeme Murray who worked on The X Files for a number of years.  Not content with just having a totally rad~core X Files Dad, Kate went on to appear in the episode Schizogeny as Lisa Baiocchi. (Pictured below)

In the Horror~verse Katherine Isabelle is mostly known as her amazing role as Ginger in the Ginger Snaps trilogy.  A role that, especially in the first one, is well worth being remembered for!  This is one of my favourite werewolf movies and one that I have been a fan of since day one!  And like American Mary, it's a movie that is filled to the brim with X Files stars and geekery!  :)  Katherine has also spent some time playing hide and seek with the one and only Freddy Kreugar in Freddy vs Jason and also starred in one of my favourite sleeper horrors, Disturbing Behaviour!  She has also appeared in a number of cult hit sci-fi shows such as Stargate SG-1, John Doe, Supernatural, The Outer Limits, Endgame and Smallville.

Paula Lindberg as Ruby RealGirl

The lovely Paula Lindberg started out doing voice work for Anime series including Starship Operators, Elemental Gelade and Mobile Suit Gundam 00 before moving on to guest roles on shows such as Fringe and a recurring part on A Town Called Eureka...as well as small parts in a variety of movies.  Paula is also the only member of this new cast that was actually part of the teaser for American Mary as well, as can be seen below.  :)

Antonio Cupo as Billy Barker

Antonio Cupo has been acting since 2000 when he started out doing guest spots on TV shows.  Like the majority of the rest of the cast, he has done a number of sci-fi show guest spots.  These have included Dark Angel and Andromeda as well other shows such as The L Word, Special Unit 2, The Sausage Factory and a number of Italian shows and movies as well.  Movies have included Elegy, Smile, Love Notes, and more recently Magic Beyond Words: The J.K. Rowling Story.

Horror nerds will probably pick up on the fact that Billy's last name is Barker, a nod of course to one of Jen and Sylvia's favourite director's, Mr Clive Barker!  When casting, the girls had to make sure that the actor they cast would do their favourite director justice...and that dreamy was a must!  On hearing that during the audition, Antonio melted the entire room, I think the girls are most definitely going to do their favourite dreamy director proud.  And speaking of Clive Barker, he has been incredibly supportive of the girls and is really excited about this film.  When you've got the creator of ye olde Pinhead on board, you know you must be doing something right! :)

David Lovgren as Dr Grant

David has been working in movies and TV since 1987 when he started out with a role in an episode of 21 Jump Street.  He has appeared in episodes of Red Dwarf, The Outer Limits, The L Word, Supernatural, Masters of Horror, Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, Smallville, Andromeda and many more.  Including The X Files.  :)

He appeared as the clone Kurt Crawford in the episode Memento Mori.  Seen below with the lovely Agent Mulder! <3

Twan Holliday as Lance Delgreggo

Twan Holiday is a metal loving actor, stunt man, singer, song writer, bass player and pro-wrestler...a wonderful combination of talents if ever I heard one!  Movie wise, the thing that stood out for me about Twan was him being a stunt man on Marcus Nispel's Pathfinder!  Starring the one and only Karl Urban!  *insert MAJOR LoTR geek~gasm*

Tristan Risk as Beatress Johnson

Tristan is a burlesque dancer who performs with Vancouver based Sweet Soul Burlesque.  Tristan has the horror Darkest Hour and the horror short Crazy Dracula Spring Break Weekend already under her belt.  Add to that American Mary and Tristan is starting to make a name for herself in the horror world, on top of already being popular in the burlesque one. :)

Shooting starts in 10 days time...in the meantime however, please take a  peek at the ever so delicious teaser trailer...starring Sylvia Soska in the role of Mary Mason, who shall be played by Katherine Isabelle in the movie.

Jennifer's Bodies - A Roundup!

So Mr Evil Bee Bee suggested that I actually do a video blog to let y'all know how Jennifer's Bodies went...and I am going to do that.  I just figured I'd start typing up my written blog as well.  Is that good enough for y'all?

I'm pleased to say, it went really well.  I have definitely built up fans of the work that was shown and that was all I wanted to do.  Hell, if I'd even made one fan out of the talent that was on display I would have been happy.  So yay, I'm super psyched to let y'all know that I have created a number of fans, that is so fucking awesome.  I am glad I chose such an eclectic range of films, not everyone is going to like all the same things so it was good to have that range.  Although I'm gutted that Emery had to leave before Splatter Movie came on because I know that he will totally dig it.

Although spontaneously throwing an event did work in my favour, having more time to plan and organise venue etc. shall definitely be better when I decide to do it next time.  The Webster Theatre is a fantastic venue, and one that I feel the people of Angus should utilise to its maximum potential as a cinema.  It's just a shame that when there is something on in the main theatre that you can't use upstairs.  That's why I struggled to get a weekend date because lets face it, weekend afternoons would definitely be a better time, haha.  Through feedback I got from people who couldn't stay for the whole thing due to babysitters and early starts etc., they all agreed that it was something that would be great to have more often, which is awesome!

I am so happy to be able to bring these independent films by such amazing women to people who genuinely want to see and enjoy them.  From initial feedback and individuals wanting to know where they can buy and pre-order these movies straight away, that's pretty fucking rad~core...to quote the lovely Jen and Sylvia Soska.  When I also told the guys about American Mary and their casting of Mary, there was a lot of excitement.  Of course.  Any genuine horror nerd would clearly be INSANE not to love this.  Katherine Isabelle is perfect in the role of Mary.

While some absolutely loved the downright grindhouse awesomeness of DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK, others were mesmerised by THE COMMUNE and others loved the hilarity of the Tromaverse that is SPLATTER MOVIE.

THE COMMUNE seriously creeped a lot of people out...myself included.  Bar flicking through the DVD to see it played okay when it arrived a few hours beforehand, I was showing this film on good faith and the fact that the reviews were seriously to my liking.  To quote Leigh Addis - "It was fucking messed up.  It was unbelievable."

There was also a lot of love for the shorts shown and funnily enough, the most excited talking I heard in one of the breaks was about probably the smallest physical character...yet the BIGGEST character and no I'm not talking about the peepee of the PSYCHOSEXUAL victim...of course I'm talking about Hero, the lovely little pooch of Elisabeth Fies...HERO!!!  That dog definitely gained a lot of fans

Oh and thank you Rachel for taking time out from Uni and coming through from Edinbugers for the night for this, you are a fucking star!  Even if you did turn down the opportunity to rub my bottom.  Haha.  Maybe save that for when there isn't a crowd, lol.

I'm looking to get more in depth reviews and opinions to y'all but the overall geekage was definitely GOOD!!! <3

And Mary is......

.....KATHERINE ISABELLE!!!!!!!!!

So happy that Jen and Sylvia have cast genre darling and also more to the point....past X Files star, mwah! to play Mary in their upcoming movie American Mary.  This is amazing news and I can't wait to see what happens when this super rad trio work together!!!  Gonna be so good.  Best known for her role as Ginger in the GINGER SNAPS trilogy, I first discovered this talented chickadee when she starred in the X Files season 5 episode Schizogeny.

Check out the teaser for American Mary and get all excited about GINGER stepping onto the autopsy table.
