Plan Z Interview - Mark Paul Wake

Plan Z is the awesome new Scottish zombie flick from Stuart Brennan. Released on Monday 16th January 2017, this is totally a film for both zombie fans and indie film fans to check out. You can check out my review here.

Here, star Mark Wake answers some very Morley, zombie questions!! :) Check it! And FYI, I would totally have Mark on my team in a zombie apocalypse, dude kicks ass!! *fistbump*

Plan Z has the ultimate plan...head to a remote island! Now I personally am all about Skye as well, however, it’s always nice to big up this incredible place; so why Skye!?

(Director Stuart Brennan)

Skye was actually one of Stuart’s favourite locations which he visited a good few years back. From the get go he told me that’s the destination he wants for the escape so it was a case of planning a journey to their from Dunfermline and where we might end up along the way, with a detour to Perth of course but I’ll say no more.

This was a very human take on a zombie apocalypse, how important was that for to you to achieve?

(Pictured above - Mark Wake and Eugene Horan)

The importance of the humanity aspect in this film was why we used the actors we did. Each one of the cast was a very emotional adaptive actor so Stuart could draw true feelings from each of them to convey a very gritty and real apocalypse. I myself aim to create three-dimensional characters so to have Stuart lead with that in mind was a dream so we got to work on expanding the character of Bill and at one point even contemplated having him with bandages around his wrists after the time jump to show he attempted suicide but failed, showing the character clearly become so mentally weak he thought best to take his life, but looking at the chances of someone surviving such an injury with no medical care seemed a little off. Yet it was great to envision that Bill being pushed to that state of mind.

(Mark Wake getting ready to be a badass yo!

We all like to think (or a large percent of us, haha) that we would totally be able to survive a zombie apocalypse. Anyone that knows me knows that my biggest concern would be zombies munching my precious Beagle, I mean...he already eats waaaay too much so zombie Alfie....the HORROR!! 😉 On a serious note though, what would be the thing that scared you most? Except Beagletoes on the prowl? (Stuart still needs to have the pleasure, haha!)

Lack of Beagles to protect us, that’s the fear! I believe Stuart touches on this a lot and it’s the emotional toll of your actions. You would go through situations and do things which you will have never done before. Even though they are undead you are still breaking that notion of harming something else and seeing the wreckage you leave behind, I’ve never seen a skull smashed open but it would probably not be a great sight.

If you had to be stuck in a zombie apocalypse with anyone, who would it be?
Could be your Gran, your first crush, favourite star, pet fish...take your pick!

I would be stuck with my younger brother. Mainly because it would be a mixture of brains and brawn plus I wouldn’t have any doubts that he would always have my back the same I would his…I hope haha! Plus having to stay alive to save your family member would hopefully add to the focus and survival instincts…

Weapons are essential, what is your ultimate pick and why?

(Pictured above - Mark Wake and Stuart Brennan)

I would have to go for the old short baseball bat, it’s not a full sized one e but has some swing on it meaning if I was done a tight staircase I could still cause some damage plus it’s light enough to fire down the belt to make a runner.

What is your preferred zombie type and which do you feel to prove the greatest threat, slow or fast?

Greatest zombie experience of modern day which altered the way I looked at them was 28 Days Later, amazing film. (Oh yes it is! Yay Jeremy! Haha.) The Crazies was great too!

The thumbs going through the eyes in 28 Days still gives me the jeebies. Rec was also a new experience as well, the Spanish one obviously, just some intense. Good old George’s Dawn Of The Dead would be my old school fav, I believe it was the first movie I saw with the shambling zoms.

Last but not least, what is your ultimate dream project?

My ultimate dream project would be a zombiesque feature I wrote about 10 years ago which still gives it a fresh look even though a decade has passed. It would be a great project to make and from the script feedback I’ve received, it would be one heck on a twisting turning apocalyptic tale. Who knows what the future will hold but I hope it’s not running zombies…well excluding the ones on set.

CALLING ALL HORROR FANS - Help Bring the Lost Creepshow 2 Segment Pinfall to Life!

Peoples of the Jeniverse, I call upon your utmost awesomeness to get onboard a totally wicked, bad-ass crowdfunding campaign.  Oooh, but what would that be I hear you ask??

Most fans of Creepshow 2 will be well aware that George A. Romero originally had five segments in his screenplay for his genius follow up to Creepshow.  Due to budget constraints, two of them never made it into the final film.  Cat from Hell eventually made it onto Tales of the Darkside: The Movie, however....Pinfall has never seen the light of day...which totally sucks as it's a wicked and incredibly fun story that will both amuse and delight horror fans.  Summed up perfectly by its tagline -
A Story about Murder, Revenge and...Bowling!

Ian Vaughan Jones, Dayle Teegarden and Witch Tree Films have decided they want to change that...which is totally awesome.  And even more awesome as it's being filmed in Scotland, and by mostly Scottish filmmakers.  Yay Scotland! :)  They even have support from Creepshow 2's Daniel Beer who played Randy in "The Raft" segment....which is pretty darn cool! :)

This is a fan film, made for the love of Creepshow, and the love of the genre.  These guys live for this shit and having worked with the majority of them, I can tell you that this film truly is in good hands.  The makeup and special effects are just amazing, and any good horror fan knows that practical effects are the best! :)

Full cast and crew won't be finalised until we have raised the money, but everyone that was involved in making this trailer is totally excited to come back.  If you look carefully, you'll see that Mr Scotch Beef himself, star of The Fairy Flag and Safe Haven, Chris Capaldi is in there as well, looking rather gore~geous! ;)

There are some amazing perks for supporters as an extra incentive to support the film, we are calling out to horror fans to give as much or as little as they can afford.  If you could share the campaign around as well, tell your horror friends and Creepshow fans all about it, send them the links and get them to see for themselves how bad ass this could be!

To keep up to date with the project, come follow us on Facebook and Twitter, and be sure to like and share and retweet our posts if you would like to see this made!

If you are a journalist or blogger, or if you write for a website, we would love for you to do a feature to support the project and entice more people to get on board.  If you would like to request further information or interviews and what not, then email jennifermorley@outlook.com with your request and I shall get back to you ASAP! :)  Thank you! xox

IronStar Films Present Blood Loss - A Film from Four Arbroath Local Film Nerds, that has A LOT of Potential!

It is with great pleasure that I present the brand spanking new teaser trailer for my fellow Arbroathians new short film, Blood Loss.

IronStar films, an independent film company created by four local lads in order to produce a variety of short films from original scripts. The first of which is " Blood Loss", a tale of retribution and redemption among a group of friends who find themselves in too deep.

When three friends are forced by a local criminal to sort out a potential problem, their plans end in a horrific accident destroying their lives forever.

Months later the three men are confronted with the possibility that not everything was as it seems, and find themselves caught between a criminal who wants the job done, and a victim who wants revenge....no matter what side they choose, there's going to be ...Blood Loss.

Graeme Carr, Peter Birnie and Al Jennings have been making little short parodies for years now, however, it was only when they met up with the youngster of the group, Dean Pearson, that they decided to take their love of film to the next level.  :)

Now I've known Graeme since I was a kid, and he has always been one of the biggest film nerds I know.  Ever since we were in our early teens, all we've ever done was talk about films.  Well, that and his constant mocking of my love of Take That.  Haha.  Don't judge me! ;)  So with that being said, I know just how good a creative mind that boy has!  Put him together with the terrible twosome that are Pete and Jennings, add in Dean, (one of my little sister Kimberley's friends, pictured below with Graeme), and you have the perfect concoction.

I've been watching my boys for some time now, and seeing them grow....spying on them...just not as creepily as Norman Bates!

It was when I met up with Jennings and Pete for lunch back in April, that they showed me not only what they had been working on, but also something that Dean had done himself.  Taking inspiration from James Wan's The Conjuring, and the story of the Annabelle doll; Dean did this whole little faux trailer himself...which is really quite tricky when you are trying to work a camera, shake a rocking chair, turn a creepy head around.  Silly boy...it was only afterwards he realised he could have just called on his Ghostbusters to come and help him.  I'm sure they would appeared, dress to kill and all. :)  It makes me so happy though seeing a younger generation of people taking inspiration from my beloved James Wan.  James and Leigh redefined the horror genre for a new generation, and so it's totally cool to see others learn, and become inspired by their work.  The circle of gore....muuuahahahaha.  Sounds so much cooler than the circle of life.  *hums song to self*

So yes...expect some interesting and muchos awesome things from these ladie.....I mean boys! ;)

I'd also just like to throw out a big thank you to John Carswell as well, a good friend of mine since I was a teenager.  John gave the guys the PERFECT location to shoot this, an abandoned mill that his family are to convert into flats.  It looks fucking awesome, so major high five to you Mr Carswell...you'll be getting added to my location scout books!  :)  This is so cool because it's a local Arbroath business cutie, helping out local aspiring filmmakers too.  YAY!  Let us show the people of Arbroath just how creeeeeeeeeeepy it can be, muuuuahahahaha. :)

For more information on the project, drop by the Facebook pages for Blood Loss and their new film company, IronStar Films.

And the charming boys that they are, they take me to the nicest of places.  Mmmmm.....a walk-in toilet, also known as the Arbroath subway/fornication ground/potty/tampon disposal unit!! ;)

Official Red Band Trailer for Debut Feature from CJ Wallis is Red Hot, Psycho-sexual Voyeurism at its Best!

Readers of my blog, and horror fans in general might remember back in November kinda time, and towards the tail end of last year/beginning of this year, that I was talking about a little movie called BB, the debut feature from CJ Wallis.  Back then I exclusively revealed the teaser poster, and then went on to interview lead star Jennifer Mae, as well as Mr Wallis himself....in a 'Part One' in a series of interviews.  More to come!  BWAH!  Back in December I also shared the teaser trailer, which did what it said on the package, and suitably teased something rotten.

Well......fast forward to today and here we have the rather fucking awesome, Official Red Band Trailer.  I think it's pretty safe to say, that BB is looking to be some seriously sexy, voyeuristic fun.  Packed with sweet beats and shot and edited both beautifully, and seamlessly...I am sure you will agree, that it's about time CJ Wallis went from being Canada's best kept secret, to a name that those of us with a love of edgy filmmakers, will be proud to introduce our friends too.  I know that I sure as hell am.

Having seen some major principle scenes within the film, I can say that this psycho-sexual voyeuristic thriller is something that both film fans, and music fans alike are gonna want to see.  CJ has been quietly making a name for himself, both within film, and music, for quite some time, and the time is now for him to step up to the next level!  As for star Jennifer Mae, with her feisty, flirty yet extremely comfortable level in front of the camera, she exudes that of a young Heather Graham, or Julianne Moore, and is most definitely one to watch.

You can check out my interview with CJ Wallis HERE, and with Jennifer Mae HERE.  Let me know what you think, comment, share....let's get the word out people.  Indie film-makers depend on YOU, the audience, to help bring their film to the forefront of peoples minds.  Unless of course all you're looking for is another Michael Bay movie! ;)

To keep up to date with everything BB, as always, just use the #BBMovie on your various social networking sites.  Facebook stalkers, please make sure to drop a like at the Official Facebook Page, and Twitter nerds, just look for @bb_movie.

You can also find CJ Wallis - @fortyfps and star Jennifer Mae - @purplestar420.  You can also find Jennifer Mae's BB girlfriend Violet Vega - @MissViolet420.

Lastly, please check out the Official BB Website and step into the world of Candy Cummings.  And remember...stay safe online, you never know who's watching you!  And cover your cameras!!
