Fright Bytes Episode 3 - Some James Wan and Insidious Goodness from the Lovely Lianne Spiderbaby!

Okay so it is with geeky pleasure that I can share with you Episode 3 of Fright Bytes, the super awesome new mini-show from one of my most gorgeous and superfab friends, Miss Lianne Spiderbaby!

The 3rd episode in her new series sees both Lianne and guest host, her rather cool brother (wearing a wicked awesome tee as well!) discussing the absolutely downright fucking rad~core INSIDIOUS!  The latest film from one of my all time favourite writer/director duo, James Wan and Leigh Whannell.  I absolutely adored INSIDIOUS, seriously one of my favourite horrors in some time.  And to quote my scaredy cat friend Lauren - "Scariest Film Ever!"  I actually had to move away from her watching it as I kept getting punched in the arm every time she jumped, lol.  James and Leigh have created something within a subgenre that is still very original and extremely quirky!  If you've not seen it yet then I totally agree with Lianne...get your asses out there and see this movie NOW!!!

Luther - Amazingly Dark and Often Brutal BBC Drama Starring Idris Elba!

Luther, the downright fucking awesome serial killer drama from the BBC is set to to return for it's second season very shortly. I didn't actually hear about the show when it was initially shown (I live in a bit of a bubble to be honest, haha!) and it was only some months after the first season had finished that I discovered it. This happened after I'd sat and watched all five seasons of The Wire one after the other and developed a little bit of a loving for bad boy Stringer Bell!  I decided to check out what other stuff he had done, obviously I knew him from stuff like 28 Weeks Later (where he worked with my beloved Jeremy Renner - the two of them have just appeared in Thor as well!) and The Losers but it was Luther that caught my eye.  I mean, Idris Elba AND serial killers...that's like heaven for me!  Instantly I knew I had to see this show, so I got the boxset and cracked on with the six episodes.

The show is dark and brooding, often with a macabre sense of humour, especially when it comes to the delightful Alice, a character who is just perfectly wicked and downright fab in every way!  It's easily the best thing that the Beeb have done in years and to lure Idris Elba back from Hollywood to get him back to his London roots is superb.  The Yanks are constantly stealing our men especially, and damn them, casting them in the best shows ever...aka Sons of Anarchy and The Wire of course.  Anyhoo, all this waffling aside, check out the two trailers below, the first one is for Season One and the second obviously Season Two.  And don't worry, they don't give anything away, it's just nice to be teased.  Sometimes at least anyway. :)

And ooh, you can join the Facebook page for the show HERE!

Lianne Spiderbaby - One of the Most Gorgeous, Intelligent Women Working in Horror Today!

Okay so I LOVE Lianne Spiderbaby.  This girl is not only impossibly gorgeous, she is also amazingly intelligent and a wonderful, shockingly talented writer.  You can read some of her articles at her blog, and also in Fangoria magazine.  Lianne is working on a book right now "Grindhouse Girls", as well as starting a career in acting.  Her first role is a wee one but as the lovely Chauntal Lewis's sister in The Toolbox Murders 2...playing one of the hottest victims ever in my humble opinion. I adore this girl and it is with great pleasure that I am telling y'all to check out her new webseries Fright Bytes.  The first episode has her flexing her acting muscles and doing a little Scream parody...the second sees her at the Shock Stock convention speaking to some kick ass peoples!

The second episode has Lianne speaking to the ladies of the Evil Dead as well as Dwayne Thorne, otherwise known as Ilsa-She Wolf of the SS...a woman whom she is writing about in her book as well.

If you are not already aware of this unbelievable lady, then add her on Twitter or Facebook to keep up to date with all of her goings on.  You won't regret it.  You can also follow her BLOG...you know you want too! <3

Elisabeth Fies - Officially Now A Master o f Horror - GO LIS!!!

If you're the kind of person that loves your horror then you'll understand how much of an honor and sign of mutual respect amongst peers that the Masters of Horror dinners are!?!  These dinners are invite only and are a get together of some of the most important directors in the genre, both old and new.  We're talking John Landis, Wes Craven, John Carpenter, Tobe Hooper, Stuart Gordon and Larry Cohen mixed in with newer additions to the genre (well kind of new) like Robert Rodriguez, Adam Rifkin (the genius who directed UNDERDOG as well, teehee!!!) and Quentin Tarantino.  Add to that James Wan, Adam Green, Joe Lynch, Eli Roth, Tim Sullivan and Edgar Wright...these dinners can be a bit of a sausage fest.  A good sausage fest but a sausage fest none the least.

Heidi Honeycutt pointed out in an article on FanGirlTastic that female directors in the genre really needed to do something about this and get them their rightly deserved invitations.

Well I am so psyched to see that one of the most wonderful women I know, both as a director, actress and all round kick ass advocate for women's rights, both on an ethical level, and that of getting their work noticed and shown to others...Miss Elisabeth Fies, finally got herself a much deserved invite! Special thanks go out to Katt Shea, director of Poison Ivy, Carrie - The Rage, Stripped to Kill 1 and 2 and Sanctuary who helped Lis get her foot in the door.

Lis is an amazingly talented chickadee and that invite was more than long overdue.  With amazingly outspoken and wonderful women like Lis and Katt in there, maybe more female directors will follow suite and join them in joining the boys, proving that women in the genre are not only just as strong as the boys, but perhaps (most definitely actually) even stronger.

Women have to work twice as hard in this industry to get noticed, something I always find bizarre as I know plenty of incredibly talented women directors who could kick the arse off of half the boys there.  Not that I'm dissing the boys, haha.  Some of my favourite all time directors are mentioned up there.

So yes, anyhoo, well done Lis, I'm so ecstatic for you and this is something you truly deserve.  And thank you Katt...you guys rock and it's awesome seeing you there representing the girls!  And the same goes to all of the other women that are out there showing the boys that they are just as fucking amazing.  I can't wait to see the day when Jen and Syliva join you guys too.  This is your time and I can't wait to see all the exciting work that you all have to offer in the future, and I look forward to continuing my support in all your endeavors.  Go Girls!!!

Have You Ever Lost Someone to Heart Disease? If So Support TEAM Cooper In Their Ben Nevis Climb!

Have you ever lost someone due to heart disease?  That's what my Granddad (below with Granny) died from on the 19th November 2009.  In aid of his memory a number of members of my family including my Mum and Dad and sister Cat are climbing Ben Nevis to raise funds for a heart charity.  Ben Nevis isn't just the tallest mountain in Scotland but in fact the whole of the British Isles.

Now obviously this is a walk in the park for Mum and Dad after they climbed Machu Picchu in Peru last year, but for some of the people doing it, as my cousin Brenda pointed out on her JustGiving page, the furthest many of the people doing the walk have walked is to their local pub!  :)  Go Team Cooper, heehee.

For some it's gonna be a challenge but they are downright gonna try their best.  As I can't do it my way of contributing is by asking you, my peoples if you could donate a small amount to their cause by visiting the online joint fundraising site at JUSTGIVING?  Pretty please.  :)  Whatever you can afford, anything would be ace!  Especially if you yourself have lost someone due to heart problems in the past.

I thank you in advance and here's to the memory of Arthur Cooper, my uncle Tim's dad Don Stretton (below with Granddad) whom the guys are also walking in memory of, and also to everyone else who have died due to this horrible condition.
