CJ Wallis is Back in the Horrorverse with New Film BB, Due to Start Filming November 2013!

So it is it great pleasure that I can announce that after a wee bit of a break, Award Winning director/writer/all rounder, CJ Wallis, is returning to the horror genre.  Horror fans will know CJ as Goody Two Shoes in Dead Hooker in a Trunk, and he was also the guy who designed my wicked Jennifer's Bodies poster last year and collaborated on numerous shorts, PSA's, website development and pre-production of American Mary with Jen and Sylvia Soska.  

Over the past couple of years, he's been touring and documenting The Smoker's Club Tour (featuring Curren$y, Method Man, Spitta, The Jets and many more),  as well as a documentary for Curren$y himself, and numerous music videos.  He also frequently collaborates with The Scarlet Ending, Cornerboy P, Fiend and many more which you can view at his website.  

With BB though, I'm happy to say that he is back to the horrorverse with a macabre vengeance!

Hope you enjoy these two teaser pics and synopsis to start you nerding out on this wicked new project of CJ's. 

BB is the provocative story of a girl named Leah who, under the name "Candy Cummings," performs strip shows online from her apartment for thousands of strangers every day, never fully knowing the extent of evils that could be watching on the other side of the screen.  

BB is set to begin filming in late November from filmmaker CJ Wallis (@fortyfps) , assuming all roles on the films production & execution and introduces Jennifer Mae (@purplestar420) in the lead role of Candy. Two previous Wallis' collaborators (Troy DeLottinville & Karen Kruper) have also been attached for small roles.

The film will be set to screen in festivals in early 2014.

Review of Jennifer Campbell's Short Film Hike!

As I mentioned in my interview with director Jennifer Campbell, I think one of the reasons why I instantly took such a liking to Hike, is the fact that it is without a doubt the kind of short I could totally see myself making!!  I mean, whenever I'm out and about walking, be it through the woods, or along the beach, or up in the hills...I always picture myself finding body parts...or a completely whole dead body!!  Sick I know, but I can't help myself, haha.  My mind just drifts off...and that's usually where it drifts to...limbs amongst the driftwood!! ;) 

With its stunning location and superb direction, what I appreciate most about Hike is how simple...yet wonderfully effective it is at the same time. It beautifully conveys the perfect image of some of the true horrors that are actually out there. As a girl with a total serial killer fascination, this is horror at its more shocking and perverse because it's so real!! 

Hike is the perfect example of the ultimate male monster. The one that blends into society. The one who despite all they may have, still needs that power play that comes from victimising a woman. One who is either physically unable to fight back, or one who has been so mentally abused, that they don't have the inner strength in them left to fight!! 

These are the men that everyone is always so shocked when they hear about some of the atrocities they have committed. They are the friendly neighbour, your kids scout leader, the boy next door...the kind of guy who we wouldn't even contemplate a danger when they ask us to go out for a hike in the woods! The best serial killers are usually the ones that blend in with society. And in the case of someone like Ted Bundy, they also happen to be some of the worst when it comes to the level and extent of violence committed!!

When describing Hike, Vancouver based director Jennifer Campbell had this to say - 

“Hike is about violence against women, being silenced and ultimately being victimized because someone is bigger, stronger and able to overpower.”

We live in a society where violence against women is shockingly high, and a lot of it is precisely down to this mindset.  Men need to show just how big and strong they are, and just how easily they can hurt their partners...or mothers, sisters, daughters...granmothers!!  

Shorts such as Hike are such an eye opener in that they remind us that whilst we may feel safe and secure in our day to day lifestyle...you never know what kind of evil may be lurking just round the corner!!  It is for this very reason that it is important for women to be self aware, and able to know that there is always someone they can turn to for help.  

I've said this before, and I'll say it again...I think the reason that women appreciate horror so much, and just why they're so good at making it, is that the levels of violence and rape against women, it's so much higher than anything against men.  Hell, childbirth is enough to give any woman an appreciation of horror, haha.  All joking aside though, I think it's wonderful that there are women out there such as Jennifer Campbell, who are making films like Hike, who are conveying the word about such topics, but in a way that opens insightful debate and understanding.  Not in a, "shove it down your throat" kind of way.  I'd just like to add on a separate note, that it's also quite appropriate that all of the funds from the Have a Heart for Horror Cook Book, a cook book filled with recipes and art from various female figures working within horror today (including yours truly!!), are going to Project Get Safe.  This is a non-profit corporation dedicated to preventing real life horrors such as victims of abuse, domestic violence, teen youth shelters, halfway houses.

I would also just like to say I've edited this to say Congratulations to JC for her award for Best Women Director in the Shorts Category at the PollyGrind Film Festival in Las Vegas.  With shit loads of films showing over a massive 17 days, this is truly a well deserved honor for Miss Campbell.  So YAY....Go Jen!! :) 

Ooh, and it also took the award for most Over the Top Special FX at this year's Stiletto Film Festival as well.  The FX that it is referring to is one that when watching the Sons of Anarchy Season 5 finale, it made me giggle and think of Hike!!  BWAH! ;) 

So yes, expect great things to come from this fellow JC, who not only shares my first name...she also shares the initial of my second name...woooo, creep~tastic!!!  Bwahahahaha. :)

Jennifer's Bodies February 2012 - Working in Association with the Dundee University Film Society with a Fellow Horror Chick! YAY!

Okay so this February's Jennifer's Bodies, I am so psyched to announce that I am working alongside the Dundee University Student Film Society!  :)  Now as if this wasn't cool enough, the main chick~a~roo in charge of the society, is a fellow kick ass horror gal!  Florence is also a fellow Horror Blogger Alliance chick, and when I went to post a reply to a blog post she had done, I saw a post from another horror chickzilla, The Real Queen of Horror!  Aaaah, what a small world we live in!  What other genre of film are you gonna find yourself bumping into others online so much as with horror?  Florence is wonderfully kooky with a wicked taste in film and a great sense of humour, and I urge you to check out her blog, A blog by your new friend: Florence NOW! :D

Jennifer's Bodies will be taking place on Sunday 26th February in the Tower Building at Dundee University.  You can find more information over at my Jennifer's Bodies page, including the full line up and tickets etc.  All of the money raised I am donating to a fellow woman in horror to go towards her 1 year old boy's medical bills for an operation to rectify his Craniosynostosis.

Dead Hooker in a Trunk Gets UK Television Premier on The Horror Channel! Go Go Soska's!

So anyone who reads my blog on a regular basis, or knows anything about me...you will know that I have a lot of love for the little Canadian movie known as Dead Hooker in a Trunk!  This madcap super awesome movie is the brainchild of two of my ultimate BFF's, that would be twin geeklings Jen and Sylvia Soska!  Jen and Sylvia are two of the most awesome people you could ever have the pleasure of knowing.  Not only are they wonderfully macabre, they are also two genuinely caring individuals, as their efforts to get everyone to donate blood through their Twisted Twins Massive Blood Drive proves. (Look out for my cameo in the video, flashing my bright blood red hair! Haha.)

Jen and Sylvia, along with their amazing partner in crime C.J. Wallis, are seriously going places.  They have the talent and the determination to make it big and it is a joy to be friends with these guys.  Not only did I have the pleasure to be part of the World Premier of Dead Hooker in a Trunk at Ghouls on Film in Birmingham, England in February 2010, a festival that was organised by my dear friend Nia Edwards-Behi...I also got to give it its Scottish Premier at my own festival, Jennifer's Bodies, this February in my hometown of Arbroath, Scotland.

The movie was released on DVD here in the UK this past May and sold out pretty much instantly!  It is now to receive its UK television premier on The Horror Channel on the 29th July.  To add to the geekiness of this premier, it is being introduced by Emily Booth, an amazing horror nerd who was at the Ghouls on Film premier.  She's a lovely, gorgeous girl and I think it's brilliant that she's the one introducing the film!

So yes, horror geeks in the UK, if you have not already purchased the DVD (you totally should by the way!), you can check out the insanity that is Dead Hooker in a Trunk on The Horror Channel this July.  Jen and Sylvia already have the support of Eli Roth and pretty much every female working in the genre.  They are at work on their second feature, starring the wonderful Katherine Isabelle, otherwise known to horror nerds as Ginger from Ginger Snaps.  These two insanely awesome nerdtastic twins and C.J. Wallis are shaking up the horror industry, and it is my advice to hop on the Soska train now...you won't regret it! <3

Jennifer's Bodies - A Roundup!

So Mr Evil Bee Bee suggested that I actually do a video blog to let y'all know how Jennifer's Bodies went...and I am going to do that.  I just figured I'd start typing up my written blog as well.  Is that good enough for y'all?

I'm pleased to say, it went really well.  I have definitely built up fans of the work that was shown and that was all I wanted to do.  Hell, if I'd even made one fan out of the talent that was on display I would have been happy.  So yay, I'm super psyched to let y'all know that I have created a number of fans, that is so fucking awesome.  I am glad I chose such an eclectic range of films, not everyone is going to like all the same things so it was good to have that range.  Although I'm gutted that Emery had to leave before Splatter Movie came on because I know that he will totally dig it.

Although spontaneously throwing an event did work in my favour, having more time to plan and organise venue etc. shall definitely be better when I decide to do it next time.  The Webster Theatre is a fantastic venue, and one that I feel the people of Angus should utilise to its maximum potential as a cinema.  It's just a shame that when there is something on in the main theatre that you can't use upstairs.  That's why I struggled to get a weekend date because lets face it, weekend afternoons would definitely be a better time, haha.  Through feedback I got from people who couldn't stay for the whole thing due to babysitters and early starts etc., they all agreed that it was something that would be great to have more often, which is awesome!

I am so happy to be able to bring these independent films by such amazing women to people who genuinely want to see and enjoy them.  From initial feedback and individuals wanting to know where they can buy and pre-order these movies straight away, that's pretty fucking rad~core...to quote the lovely Jen and Sylvia Soska.  When I also told the guys about American Mary and their casting of Mary, there was a lot of excitement.  Of course.  Any genuine horror nerd would clearly be INSANE not to love this.  Katherine Isabelle is perfect in the role of Mary.

While some absolutely loved the downright grindhouse awesomeness of DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK, others were mesmerised by THE COMMUNE and others loved the hilarity of the Tromaverse that is SPLATTER MOVIE.

THE COMMUNE seriously creeped a lot of people out...myself included.  Bar flicking through the DVD to see it played okay when it arrived a few hours beforehand, I was showing this film on good faith and the fact that the reviews were seriously to my liking.  To quote Leigh Addis - "It was fucking messed up.  It was unbelievable."

There was also a lot of love for the shorts shown and funnily enough, the most excited talking I heard in one of the breaks was about probably the smallest physical character...yet the BIGGEST character and no I'm not talking about the peepee of the PSYCHOSEXUAL victim...of course I'm talking about Hero, the lovely little pooch of Elisabeth Fies...HERO!!!  That dog definitely gained a lot of fans

Oh and thank you Rachel for taking time out from Uni and coming through from Edinbugers for the night for this, you are a fucking star!  Even if you did turn down the opportunity to rub my bottom.  Haha.  Maybe save that for when there isn't a crowd, lol.

I'm looking to get more in depth reviews and opinions to y'all but the overall geekage was definitely GOOD!!! <3

Jennifer's Bodies - Scottish Premiere of Elizabeth Fies, The Commune

Greetings people, if you head on over to the blog for Jennifer's Bodies then you can find out more about the films I am going to be showing for my Women in Horror Recognition Month event.  First up is Elizabeth Fies and her dark, twisted movie The Commune, that has been described as "The bastard child of THE WICKER MAN and Greek Tragedy" byThe Huffington Post.  Jennifer's Bodies will be the first time this film has been shown in Scotland and it's just a shame that Miss Fies can't make it over to see it in lovely Wicker Man country.  

Women in Horror Month - Twisted Twins Massive Blood Drive PSA 2011

If you've not already seen the wonderful new PSA for the Twisted Twins BLOOD Drive, check it out.  It's a wonderful wee video showcasing some awesome women working in the genre...and me.  It's fun, it's quirky and most of all, it's all to raise awareness around the importance of giving blood.  Oooh, and to announce who AMERICAN MARY is!!!  Mwah!

Women in Horror Month - Arbroath/Angus Event

Hey guys, okay, so if you've been following my video Blog then you will know that I have decided to go ahead with putting together an event in Arbroath for Women in Horror Recognition Month.  I could have done it in one of the bigger cities but you know what, even just with people that I know here, there is a lot of you whom I know LOVE horror so I figured why the hell not host it here!?!

It's the kind of thing you don't get here, I mean hell we don't even have a cinema...or do we!?!?!!!!  It turns out that The Webster Theatre have been hiding a rather nifty little cinema area upstairs, this is ever since the refurbishment and I have to say, it looks fab.  This could be a good way of showing that people want something like this more often.  If you go to the Webster Theatre site and click on the little rotate sign, you can totally check it out.  I love the fact that it's all white and red as well...how bloodtastic!!! <3  At the moment, The Webster Theatre is seriously looking like the best option and I shall let you all know as soon as this has been confirmed.

At the moment I am thinking the 28th February for this event, just looking at costing and what not.  I shall be announcing the full line up on the 1st February but just to give you a teaser, I shall be hosting the Scottish premier of my gore-geous Canadian twinlings Jen and Sylvia Soska's acclaimed debut feature, Dead Hooker in a Trunk.  I saw this film last year at Ghouls on Film (this was the UK premier) and it is just so downright awesome and I've been going on about it ever since that I thought argggh, this has never been shown in Scotland...I shall take away its Scottish virginity, mwahahaha.

I want to donate as much of the ticket money to the Raynaud's and Scleroderma Association as possible and so if you have a business/website and would like to sponsor this event to help cover basic costs then please do get in touch.  As you may have read in my Blog earlier this week, Scleroderma is the condition that killed our Women in Horror Month founder, Hannah's father a year ago and it is one that not enough people know about and with your help, I'd like to help change that.  I am away to start up a Blog for the actual event and so I shall post more information there as soon as I do. :D  

Oh, and last but not least...I have decided a name for this festival...with lots of thumbs up and giggles from all my horrorific geeks in crime...
